The following
list gives a brief description of the jobs required during each
meet that MTS hosts:
- Timer -
Uses stopwatch and is responsible for timing one lane during a meet. An
orientation session for timers is held prior to each session of a meet.
Must be 15 years old or older.
- Runner - After an event picks up timing slips and
takes them to the computer table.
- Door Entry -
Arrives at the meet 1.5
hours prior to start. Monitors front door to make sure
only swimmers and their families are entering the building.
- Heat Sheet Sales -
Must arrive approximately 1.5
hrs prior to start of meet. Sells heat sheets,
tee-shirts, and swim caps.
- Concessions - Sells concessions.
- Office Worker - Posts results and assists in the office during the meet.
- Awards - Responsible for attaching award labels to ribbons and separating
out for teams.
- USS Official - Requires certification by United States Swimming.

- Announcer - Announces events during the meet. Must be trained.
- Announcer Coordinator -
Keeps the Announcer appraised of event progression in
one of the two pools.
- 10 & Under
Monitor - Several parents that watch the 10 & under
Memphis Tiger swimmers, make sure
they show up for their events. The monitors are given a list with
each swimmer's name and events.
- Initial Set-up - Usually done 2 days prior to the beginning
of each meet. Involves bringing down coolers, tables, platforms, etc. from
the upstairs loft and assembling the platforms. Requires HEAVY lifting.
- Final Set-up -
Usually done the day prior to the beginning of each meet. Involves setting
up the equipment for the meet - tables, chairs, computers and electronic
timing equipment.
- Take
Down - Done immediately following
the conclusion of prelims on the last
day of the meet as well as after the
conclusion of finals, also on the last
day of the meet. Involves returning
to storage all computer and electronic
timing equipment, returning tables,
coolers and other misc. equipment to
the upstairs loft and dismantling platforms. Some
HEAVY lifting is required.
- Cooking for Hospitality - Parents are needed to help cook
food served in hospitality. Recipes are provided.
- Concessions Breakdown - Arrive for shift at appointed time (usually 1 hour
before anticipated end of meet's final session) to assist in
cleaning up the concessions area-draining beverage buckets, cleaning up left-over
food, breaking down tables, etc.
- Hospitality
Breakdown - Arrive for shift at appointed time (usually 1 hour
before anticipated end of meet's final session) to assist in
cleaning up the hospitality room--cleaning utensils/trays, puttting away
food, breaking down tables, etc.
- Maestro -
At prelim/finals meets, sits with Announcer at finals and uses either a
laptop or other device to cue music, so the swimmers march in to "fanfare".
- Friday Night Timer - Lane timer during distance events for masters swimmers, fitness swimmers and/or triathletes. (Tiger Circuit Meet only)
- Friday Night Official - Officiate during distance events for masters swimmers, fitness swimmers and/or triathletes (Tiger Circuit Meet only). Requires certification by United States Swimming. If interested, e-mail Walter Smalley.
